Student bodies in different areas held their general meetings to discuss various agendas pertaining to their organizations.
STSSU: The 27th UBA Seyochung Town Sangtam Students Union (STSSU) session 2017 was held on December 27 and 28 under the theme, “invigorating the infinite knowledge”.
Chief guest of the inaugural session was BJYM Nagaland vice president, Kyupise Sangtam. He urged the students to act as role models in society through good moral and spiritual responsibilities. At the same time, he said students should co-operate with the administration and leaders irrespective of tribe, clan or status so that their town can develop.
Kyupise also lamented the “ill treatment meted out to their much and already neglected town with no developments or changes whatsoever”. He advised the students to be like a burning candles which give light by burning itself.
Further, he encouraged the students to excel in various fields so as to compete with rest of the Nagas. He also acknowledged the mixed community like Sumi, Yimchunger and Sangtam for maintaining their age-old tradition of peaceful co-existence.
ZSU: Zhavame Students’ Union (ZSU) also observed its 58th general session on December 28 under the theme, “bridging the past, cultivating the future” at Pame Tsudu, Zhavame village. In his inaugural speech, Deo Nukhu, MLA asserted that education begins at home and emphasized on learning one’s mother tongue and giving lesser importance to Nagamese.
He noted that Non-resident Indians (NRIs) were returning back to India to teach and help their own people and therefore urged upon the student community to believe in themselves. He further underscored the need for students to study persistently for competitive examinations while also laying emphasis on vocational education and learning technical skills for job-oriented employment.
Highlights of the event included unveiling of union flag by the chief guest, invocation by Catechist, St. Xavier’s Catholic Church, S. John Krocha, special appearance by Lisü Nukhu, presidential address by Medovi Rhi, releasing of tenure magazine, sharing by Dr. Rosou Pohena (CTSE, NPSC 2016 batch), “fly” by Mosurhü Dukru, general secretary report by Derhü Pohena, meritorious award, declaration of new office bearers by ZSU election commission, act of blessing by Principal of St. John School, Razeba, Rev. Fr. James Sangtam and benediction by ZBC associate pastor, Soukho Shupao, while Sapulu Krocha and Tseili Dukru were the comperes.
KBSU: Khulazu Basa Students’ Union (KBSU) 61st general session was held at Cekiizho, Khulazu Basa village under Phek district under the theme, “education and skill: two dimensional approach in employment” on December 28.
The guest speakers for the session were and Vekhoyi Tetseo, Asst. Registrar, SASRD, Nagaland University, Medziphema while the resource persons were Seto Rhakho and Nukhosa Chuzho respectively.
In his address, scientist, central ground water board, government of India, ministry of water resources, Vekhosa Kezo said spirit of self reliance, dignity of labour and entrepreneurs was the need of the hour. He said that as educated individuals, every student should be responsible for their failures and success.
KBSU president, Kezhothito Keyho affirmed that the prime reason for the existence of the union was to protect the rights and work for the welfare of students. He also urged students to contribute to the societal compact they identify themselves with.
During a short speech, first matriculate from Khulazu Basa village, S. Pusayi Rhakho reminded the gathering to be equipped with wisdom and knowledge as it was the only way to succeed in life. Headmaster in-charge, government high school, Khulazu Basa, Vezhohu Rhakho also challenged students to rebuild the society with far-sighted vision and said that books were guardians which would lead them to the right path of knowledge.
Meanwhile, best student of the year was awarded to Vengota Keyho, (class 7) and Phisalii (class 6) respectively. The programme also saw a poem recitation by Pusazolii Chiizho.
PSU: Two-day, 59th general session-cum-cultural dance competition of Phek Students’ Union (PSU) got underway at Phek village local ground on December 29 under the theme “education for culture.”
Speaking at the inaugural function, secretary, women resources department, government of Nagaland, Nukutulii Rhakho challenged the students to focus on competitive exam and come out with triumphant colours. Touching on the theme, she maintained that education and culture go hand in hand.
Earlier, the function was chaired by Kho-o Keyho while, welcome address by Kuthovo Chizo, reading out of general secretary report by Kiidezo Vero and meritorious award led by Khriihive Keyho.
Meanwhile, minister for home Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu will grace the second day as guest speaker on December 30, while district and sessions judge Nechochiyi Venuh will exhort the gathering.
KSU: The 55th Kidima Students’ Union (KSU) annual session was held from December 28-29 at Kidima village council hall.
According to KSU former president, P. Tepekrovi Kiso, parliamentary secretary for Economics & Statistics and SCERT, Er. Kropol Vitsu graced the session.
In his speech, he urged the students to go for orientations apart from general degree to compete with the world.
During the session, debate under the topic “are illegal Bangladesh immigrants the root cause of unemployment in Nagaland?” was held, where Vikenoto Ltu, Kethovonu Yore and Nosechonu Thokhwe came first, second and third respectively. Extempore, solo, quartet, cultural group folk song, strong voice, fancy dress, talent show and tati (quartet) competitions were also held.
Meanwhile, Kidima village council, senior students’ leaders, representatives of Southern Angami Students’ Union (SASU), neighbouring villagers and government officials with parents attended the programme, while the union conference flag was unfurled by chief guest.
