
Khensa Students Union (KSU), Kezo Town Students’ Union (KTSU), Angangba Village Students’ Union (AVSU), Jakhama Student Union (JSU) Seyochung Village Students’ Union (SVSU) Natha Old Student’s Union (NOSU) and Ralan Area Student’s Union (RASU) observed anniversaries and conferences in their respective areas.
KSU: Second day of Khensa Students’ Union (KSU) 75th anniversary was graced by minister Health & Family Welfare, Election and Parliamentary Affairs, Imkong L Imchen on December 30 at the Multipurpose Community Hall.
Addressing the gathering, Imchen said that a transformation was required to achieve the goals set by Church bodies in order to attain clean election. He said that the concept of clean election was good for candidates but it was the other way for general public. He stated that instead of implementing the notion of clean election from the top to bottom, it should start from the ground level and suggested that the whole idea of clean election should be inculcated in the school curriculum, taught in Sunday schools and that Church leaders and preachers should not stop talking about it.
“Electorates should be properly educated and not imposed,” he reiterated while stating that “clean election is not a Biblical but a social concept.” On Naga political issue, the minister said, “It is very imperative for every Naga to pursue for the right Naga Political settlement” and added, “The current situation and atmosphere is the conducive for arriving to a settlement”.
Main speaker of the programme, Kohima College principal, Dr. Watijungshi spoke on the theme of the jubilee and said that they were all stepping into a new generation of “digital age” and there was an urgency to develop extra skills in all aspects of political, education, social, economic etc.
KSU platinum souvenir was released by 101 years old Makenyangba, who is the oldest surviving founding member of KSU. President of Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) and Ongpangkong Students’ Conference (OKM) also spoke in the programme. Songs were presented by recipient of National Award for “best creative child with disabilities”, 2015 Katibenla and Ao band “Samaro”.
During the evening session, deputy conservator of Forest Hanumangarh Rajasthan, Supongsashi delivered a presentation on “academic and competitive exam” while district project officer Land Resource, Mokokchung, Dr. Sashiyangba spoke on “skill development and entrepreneurship”
KTSU: 39th general conference-cum-freshers’ day of Kezo Town Students’ Union (KTSU) was held on December 30 at Kezo town.
Speaking at the programme as chief guest, general secretary Angami Sports Association (ASA), Er. Zale Neikha spoke under the topic, “knowledge is power,” and said that the very quote highlighted that with more knowledge, a person was able to control circumstances in the life accordingly. He said knowledge is more powerful than physical strength and that no great work can be done without knowledge.
While noting that understanding comes through asking questions, he added that a child’s learning capability was faster because he/she frequently asks. “Adolescents and adult should also cultivate this habit to improve and increase their knowledge”, he said.
Saying that failures are the pillar of success and should be treated as learning experiences, he said “Failing is one step closer to success provided you correct your mistakes and learn from it. You should not feel as a downfall when you failed.” He also challenged government teachers to give their best in order to elevate government institutions to be at par with private schools.
Earlier, first president of Kezoma Students’ Union (KSU) Vikrosa Zecho exhorted the gathering while presidential address was delivered by KTSU president, Kenongol Tase.
AVSU: 53rd general session-cum-cultural programme of Angangba Village Students’ Union (AVSU) was held from December 27 to 29 under the theme “education for complete living” with CEC member NPF, H. Lisechem Sangtam as the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest urged students to have competitive spirit and have determination to achieve one’s goal. He also encouraged the students to have a sense of hard labour to achieve their desired goal.
JSU: Jakhama Student Union (JSU) held its 51st general conference-cum-cultural day on December 29, with DRDA project director Kevipodi Sophie as guest of honour.
A press release by JSU organizing committee stated that guest of honour spoke on “Jakhama, a land of beauty and warriors”, he also emphasized on clean election. Furthermore, he encouraged the students to inculcate quality education and to uphold the rich traditions of one’s identity.
Kulnu Khel, GB Saku Rolnu spoke in the cultural practices of Jakhama. He also stressed on the need to revive the cultural practices as part of education for the upcoming generation.
Earlier, the programme was presided over by JSU vice president Zhokedu Zhotso and compered by Meyiengonu Tetso, invocation prayer was pronounced by JCC, assistant catechist Koleto Richa, presidential address was delivered by JSU president Teisozhavi Tetso where he appealed the villagers as a whole to protect the natural resources of the village and forest which has been the culture of the village. Secretary report was delivered by Rukhukhonu Rolnu. More than 1200 students and villagers attended the function which ended with a cultural feast.
SVSU: Seyochung Village Students’ Union (SVSU) general session 2017 was held on December 27 and 29 under the theme “Knowledge is power” with President SVSU, K.Chumseli Anar as the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, chief guest urged upon the people of Seyochung village to protect its own culture and tradition as one’s life of identity.
Anar also exhorted the people to give most priority on education to their children as education has been the all round development.
On social, he said divided is the key to lose blessing and united is the key to triumph therefore he said people to live with love and understanding. Anar also urged the people to support the NBCC clean election campaign. He quoted the slogan “Clean election clean development”.
NOSU: Natha Old Student’s Union (NOSU) observed 56th annual session programme from December 27 to 29 with a theme “Quality Education for greater height” with former vigilance commissioner, K T Sukhalu Rtd as the chief guest. Press release by NOSU stated that chief guest urged the students to strive for quality education. The speakers of the session were president ZRSU Tohuto, Rokali, lecturer ATC, Lovitoli and pastor Vishito, while the inaugural session was inaugurated by pastor, Natha old village, Vishito.
RASU: Ralan Area Student’s Union (RASU) observed 51st general conferences from December 27 to 29 under the theme “quest for excellence” hosted by Yanpha Student’s Union (YSU). In a press release by RASU, the conference was graced by medical superintendent (MS) District Hospital Zunheboto, Dr. C. Wothungo Tungoe as chief guest, sub-divisional agriculture officer (SDAO) Baghty, Wochamo Patton as special guest and sub-divisional agriculture officer (SDAO) Dimapur, Ronchamo Kikon as guest of honour.
The conference speakers were PGT, government higher secondary school, Bhandari, Chumben Ovung and chairman RABCU, Renben Ovung, while chairman WDCA Wokha, Myingthungo Odyuo and former president RASU, Merithung Ovung exhorted the conference. RASU further acknowledged and appreciated the Yanpha Student’s Union and all dignitaries and well wishers who had contributed towards the success of conference.
