As per the November 29, 2017 resolution of all the Rengma frontal organizations; Rengma Hoho, Rengma Selo Zi, Rengma Woman Association, and Rengma Students’ Union, a common platform was organised on February 15 at RSA ground Tseminyu.
A press release appended by CEC convenor, Dr. P. S. Lorin and Council of Rengma Baptist Churches (CRBC) executive secretary, Haiwalo Apon stated that CRBC praised God and appreciated the support from civil society, general public and the cooperation from all the intending candidates. It said that clean election allows each and every voter to exercise their judgement and decision, free from inducements, force, and booth capturing.
CRBC is hopeful and prayed that it could start to mend its ways and overcome the challenges its people face together. It also stated that this is a call to take a firm stand to exercise our vote consciously on the basis of one vote without selling. It further said that, every citizen has the right to expect their leaders to work for the upliftment of the people during and after election without resorting to corruption to make up for illegal expenses, if any.
CRBC urged members of all Rengma Churches to fly the ‘Clean Election Flag’ that has been distributed through respective Churches to symbolise adopting of clean election principles so as to let every individual freely exercise their franchise as a fundamental right to vote.
CRBC informed that it would stands firm with administration to maintain peaceful atmosphere in the ensuing election, and requested all the respective Church sub-committees to ensure free and fair elections in their respective villages.
