In unison with the universal Church and heeding to the call of Pope Francis, the diocese of Kohima has invited all the faithful to observe Friday, February 23 as a day of “prayer and fast”.
Pope Francis at the conclusion of the Angelus prayer on February 4 at Vatican proposed a day of prayer and fasting for peace in the democratic republic of Congo, South Sudan and in the entire world to be held on February 23, of the first week of Lent.
A communication from the Bishop’s House Kohima said that the day of prayer and fasting during this week is relevant to Nagaland as it goes to the poll on February 27. Therefore the faithful have been invited to place this local intention during the day of prayer and fasting on Friday, so as to have a peaceful and responsible election in Nagaland.
Further, the communication also said that Pope Francis has urged the members of the Church to take up the Lenten journey with enthusiasm, sustained by almsgiving, fasting and prayer. He proposed “24 hours for the Lord” during which the entire Church community is to celebrate the sacrament of reconciliation in the context of Eucharistic adoration. It informed that this will take place from March 9 to 10.
