53 MLAs re-contesting for 13th NLA

With the release of Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), Nagaland Election Watch report, it was found that there are 53 candidates seeking re-election to the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
Of the 53 MLAs, 29 belong to NPF, 9 to BJP, 11 to NDPP, 3 to NPP and 1 to JD(U). Of the 38 NPF MLAs elected in 2013 assembly elections, 18 are contesting as NPF candidates, 4 as BJP, 10 as NDPP, one as JDU and one as NPP. Three are not seeking re-election and one seat fell vacant after demise of MLA. All four sitting BJP legislators will be seeking re-election under the same party.
Of the 86 first timers, 13 are contesting as NPF, 16 as NDPP, 8 as BJP, 12 as INC, 5 as NCP, 7 as JD-U, 14 NPP, 2 as AAP, 1 as LJSP and 8 as Independent.
As per the affidavits filed by candidates, Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), Nagaland Election Watch  report  stated that the average assets of re-contesting MLAs in 2013 was Rs 3.06 crores while the average assets of those re-contesting MLAs in 2018 was Rs 4.31 crores. The average growth in assets of re-contesting MLAs from 2013 to 2018 was Rs 1.24 crores i.e. by 41%. Comparative analysis of party wise average assets of re-contesting MLAs in 2013 and 2018. According to ADR report, top three re-contesting MLA with highest growth in assets include Yitachu (161%), G Kaito Aye (305%) and Y Vikheho (500%)
Meanwhile a total of 11,70,548 voters will go for poll on February 27 in 59 constituencies. According to the Additional CEO Moa Aier there was 11,91,513 to go on poll however with 11 Northern Anagami II being declared unopposed thereby 20965 electorates from 11 NA II was omitted.
For February 27 polls, 5,91,440 males and 5,79,108 females will take part in the polling.
Also Aier informed that a total of 32 complaints were received from various parts of the state till February 23. He said ten complaints were received from Mokokchung district, Phek: 7, Kohima: 5, Wokha: 3, one each from Kiphire, Pughoboto and Longleng and two each from Zunheboto and Mon.
Aier informed that one-third of the cases were settled while the rest are under investigation
He also disclosed that 34 complaints registered online (call centre) was disposed off.
Villages that have excommunicated candidate from each village include- Merangkong, Chuchuyimlang and Longsa.  The state election authorities have taken serious note and the DCs have issued show cause notices to the villages and also directed the VCs to withdraw the notices. Police and security forces have also been asked to ensure security to excommunicated candidates entering their villages for election campaigns.
