Imkong L.Imchen spokesperson and also press and media cell of NPF(Noke-Kaito) through separate press releases , reacted to the statement of chief minister T.R.Zeliang over the outcome of his meetings in Delhi Wednesday with prime minister Narendra Modi and national BJP president Amit Shah as reported in the media.
In a release, Imkong L.Imchen attacked “minority chief minister T.R.Zeliang” for stooping to “such a low level that he has sold off the honourable prime minister of the country and BJP president”.
He said T.R.Zeliang’s “propaganda of lies and deceit” will not convince the people but instead “cheapened the chair of the chief minister”. Imchen asserted, that when the BJP central leadership had chosen to remain neutral and urged NPF to resolve “its internal matter”, there was no question of the BJP “making contradictory statements or assurances”.
He said when T.R.Zeliang has lost majority support of NPF legislators, central leaders in Delhi “cannot and will not assure any group of support”.
Imchen said though much could be said on the utterances of T.R.Zeliang’s meeting with the prime minister , yet his party reserved comments as it respected the prime minister and so would not “drag his name” into an internal problem of the NPF.
He slammed T.R.Zeliang for “rushing from pillar to post” in begging support from political parties like BJP, Congress, JD(U) and NCP, when majority of his party’s MLAs have withdrawn support to his leadership.
Imchen said the best option was for Zeliang to step aside and resign gracefully and save the state from “new depths under his minority leadership”.
He slammed both “minority chief minister T.R.Zeliang and the ex-president NPF Dr.Shurhozelie” of spreading false propaganda in a “last desperate attempts to stay afloat” as they lost majority in both the legislature and party organisation.
Imchen asserted that NPF under Noke has clear majority of leaders in the party and majority of MLAs including both MPs in backing the leadership of Noke Wangnao and G.Kaito Aye. He also accused Dr. Shurhozelie of “trying his best to lure MLAs” with offers of “ministerial berths even in Delhi” but all those who were contacted, had reportedly “advised him to respect the view of the majority”.
Imchen said NPF “ is not the private property of a single person or section” and would be guided and function by the majority having the mandate of the people. He maintained that the Election Commission of India “will never allow a minority group to rule over any political party in the country and allow democracy to be suppressed in the world’s largest democracy”.
Imchen also alleged that ministers, parliamentary secretaries and MLAs including the deputy speaker were kept “under lock and key at Dr.Shurhozelie’s hotel in Kohima” and that they were “willing to join us” but were held in captivity and not even allowed to meet their family members and party supporters. He demanded that “former president Dr.Shurhozelie and minority chief minister T.R.Zeliang” immediately release the legislators and “allow them to join hands with the majority”.
Media cell
In another release, NPF press and media cell (P&MC)said the statement by “minority chief minister T.R.Zeliang” and the CMO on the meetings with the prime minister and national BJP president were “false and fabricated and meant to mislead the public”.
It maintained that statements of Zeliang meeting the two central leaders were neither issued by the PMO or BJP president’s office. Further , P&MC said this was confirmed by its leaders presently in Delhi, “from top BJP leaders in the state and in Delhi” that the “minority chief minister” and his office had fabricated the purported assurances of the prime minister and the BJP president”. NPF P&MC pointed out that BJP was clear that it would remain neutral and would not interfere in the internal matters of NPF and therefore, “ the question of the prime minister and BJP president, giving assurances to the minority chief minister does not arise”.
It further advised the “minority chief minister” against misusing names of top leaders of the country “in his desperate bid to cling to power in an undemocratic and unconstitutional manner”The media cell said though Zeliang might fool the people but he would be held fully responsible for “his false propaganda in the days to come”.
