
Sporadic violence marked the one-day polling on Tuesday in Nagaland when one person was killed and two others injured at Akuluto A/C under Zunheboto district after a clash erupted between supporters of rival candidates. There were also reports of stone pelting in some areas.
“Clashes erupted in Akuluto constituency between rival groups when some people prevented voters from entering a polling station. The two groups indulged in firing, following which police opened fire. As of now, we are not able to ascertain the cause of injuries,” DGP Nagaland, Rupin Sharma told IANS. He said police reinforcements were rushed to the area to control the situation.
According to DIPR reports, security forces restored to blank firing leaving one dead and two injured.
In Tizit constituency, one person was reportedly injured when a crude bomb went off at a polling station even before polling commenced, a police official said. According to sources, the crude bomb landed on the roof of the EBRC Tizit, designated Polling station no 20 and the splinters injured one person.
It was also reported that a mob destroyed a Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail machine in Tizit constituency. But polling resumed after the machine was replaced, an official said.
