Seminar on livestock entrepreneurship

A one-day seminar on livestock entrepreneurship and zoonosis was held at VDB hall, Zhavame village, Phek on July 28, organized by the Zhavame Students’ Union (ZSU).

A press release by ZSU president, Visapa Movi stated that the seminar was aimed at encouraging rural farmers to take up livestock entrepreneurship as an alternate source of livelihood, and spread awareness about important zoonotic diseases which were seen to be prevalent in livestock farms.
The resource speakers, Dr. Rosou Pohena, VAS Phek, Dr. Y. Bauan Buchem M.V.SC (Surgery), Dr. Kevisenuo Evalyn Vizo M.V.Sc (livestock production management) dwelt on topics such as piggery farming, goat farming, backyard poultry and also important zoonotic diseases.
A free anti-rabies vaccination camp and free distribution of dewormers was also conducted in collaboration with CVO office Phek where around 70 dogs were immunised against the rabies disease. Spaying/panhysterectomy of female piglets was also carried out in the village.
The seminar was sponsored by Zhavame village council and moderated by Medovi Rhi, VP CSU.
