A team of East Dimapur Sümi Students’ Union (EDSSU) executive members inspected both government and private schools under its jurisdiction.
According to EDSSU president, Mughabeto Rochill, during the tour the team visited 13 schools.
The inspection was carried out to collect the first hand information of the condition of, and environment in, the schools, and to exchange views and ideas between the school authorities.
The union claimed that they found that government schools were collecting abnormal admission fees defying government orders. It warned the schools to abide by the government’s order failing which the union said it would be compelled to take the matter to the appropriate authorities for redressal and punish the erring officer(s).
The team also found out that government schools were functioning with inadequate basic needs such as poor electrification and insufficient ceiling fans in the class rooms and offices, lack of safe drinking water facilities, etc.
The department was yet to redeploy or appoint teachers and other staff in the recently upgraded higher secondary and high schools due to which the schools were running with shortage of subject teachers, the union claimed.
Meanwhile, the union warned of stringent action against the students found involved in anti social activities.
EDSSU team also met the shop keepers around the school locality and warned them of severe consequences if they were found selling prohibited items to the students.
