Mass Social Work initiative kicks off across Nagaland

The State-wide mass social work, to be conducted from September 29 to October 2, 2018, kick-started across the state and saw the participation of various unions, organizations, agencies and individuals. Following are the reports of the social work launch from across the state. All the reports are from the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) except where mentioned otherwise.

Kiphire: Along with the rest of the country, Kiphire also kick started Swachh Bharat Week from Deluxe Point with ADC Kiphire, Reny Wilfred flagging of the program on Saturday.

Wilfred said that the week was a mass movement for cleanliness from the bottom to the top level. He said that during this week, everyone must participate in the cleaning drive.

Secretary, Swachh Bharat Mission Kiphire, Tsipise Antony, who also spoke at the program said that Swach Bharat Mission is a mission to fulfil the vision of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. He said that cleanliness will certainly impact the country positively and allow it to flourish. Antony further called upon the gathering to join hands for this movement and create and maintain a clean environment in the district.

The program was chaired by EAC(P) Kiphire, Toking Yimchungre. Pastor of Lotha Baptist Church Kiphire pronounced the invocation.

Secretary, SBM Kiphire administrated the Swachh Bharat Pledge followed by flagging off of the Swachh Bharat Week by ADC Kiphire.

In all eleven wards in Kiphire town, Heads of Departments along with local NGOs were entrusted with supervising the work.

At Seyochung, the Swachh Bharat Week was flagged off by ADC Seyochung, Nchumbemo. In a flagging off program the ADC delivered a short speech. The program was chaired by SDO(C) Seyochung, Mangyangzungba. (Correspondent) 

Pfutsero: Pfutsero town also joined the mass social work attended by all HoDs, government servants, nearby village authorities, public leaders and the general public.

Minister of Planning & Co-ordination, Land Revenue, Neiba Kronu also visited his constituency Pfutsero to oversee the Mass Social Work. Kronu expressed deep appreciation to the public for their keen interest and for participating the mass social work. He however expressed his resentment towards the careless approach of the Border Road Organization (BRO) for giving false promises and its gross neglect of NH-29 (Kohima-Jessami), in Pfutsero main town especially at NST Location & CHC/Prayer Centre area where plying of vehicles is highly treacherous in the rainy season. The minister urged the BRO authorities to immediately address the issue otherwise, he said, it may invite public wrath as this road has been neglected by BRO for so long. While lauding the public and HODs, the minister assured of all possible help from his side in such welfare and developmental activities in the area. (Correspondent) 

Tuensang: In Tuensang, the DC, L. Jamithung Lotha launched Swachhata Hi Seva at Clock Tower Tuensang. While briefing the participants about the program, he said that one must keep their surroundings clean and make use of dust bins to dispose waste. The program was chaired by EAC, Vikhoto Richa and a special number was presented by Lirili Sangtam. All government employees, heads of offices, district administration, Ward Committee members and citizens participated in the mass social work.

Phek: Phek District headquarter observed a program under the theme “Town Cleanliness & Beautification Drive” which was jointly organized by Phek Town Council, DDMA with Phek Town Youth Society where all the denizens of Phek town took part in the mass social work.

The DC called upon the people to give their best effort for betterment of the living standard. A pledge was taken on the occasion for a cleaner Phek town.

A brief function was also held at Phek Town Baptist Church Junction chaired by Avelu Ruho, ADC & administrator, PTC.

Further on October 1, all wards and NGOs will be carrying out a mass social work at Phek Government College for which all government departments have been informed to conduct social work in their respective compounds and surroundings. 

Mokokchung: Swachh Bharat, with its theme “One Step towards Cleanliness”, was flagged off at a program in Mokokchung district, held at Imlong Place.

Brand Ambassador Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) Supongmeren flagged off the program in the presence of DC Mokokchung, Sachin Jaiswal and Bendangnukshi, District Ambassador (SBM).

The program was chaired by ADC W. Manpai Phom; pastor MTBA Rev. Ponen Longchar invoked God’s blessings.

Pughoboto: Joining the state wide cleanliness drive, Pughoboto town conducted social work in all the colonies and offices led by administrators.

All the residents cleared weeds along the side of the main roads and cleared clogged drains in their respective colonies, initiated by the GBs. GHS, New Foundation School, Mission School Pughoboto students swept the streets in the town under the supervision of the school authorities. Adhoc Town council Pughoboto took the responsibility of deposing the garbage and waste by providing vehicles.

Longkhim: As part of the Swachh Bharat Day, Longkhim Town conduct a mass social work led by ADC Longkhim. During a brief launching program, SDO (C) Longkim elaborated on the Swachh Bharat Mission. The social work commenced with a short prayer pronounced by the pastor of Longkim Town Baptist Church.

Tening: Tening participated in the state wide mass social work for Swachh Bharat (Making India Clean). EAC, Sakuchingmak Chang, ADC’s office has instructed all the head offices including denizens to continue cleaning their surroundings till October 2 and even in the days to come. 

Old Town Peren: Along with the state, Old Town Peren Hq also celebrated Swach Bharat Day on September 29. ADC Chuba Wati Chang gave a briefing on the importance of the Swach Bharat Day. All the wards members and general public participated in the mass cleanliness drives.

Jalukie Town: The Swachhata Hi Seva program was held at Traffic point Jalukie Town. ADC Tinojongshi Chang delivered the keynote address. The general public and the business community participated in the mass social work program.

Bhandari: Bhandari sub-division organised a mass social work commemorating Swachh Bharat Day under the initiative of ADC Bhandari, Tiameren Chang. Members of the public, students, government employees and NGOs participated in the activity. The work was carried out by filling potholes, clearing jungles, drainages and landslides. Attendance of the community and government employees was mandatory. The work was supervised by administration, HoOs, GBs and NGOs.

Tseminyu: Mass social work was successfully conducted at Tseminyu. Heads of Departments worked as supervisors of the nine wards in Tseminyu town. ADC Nokchasashi Ao and EAC Kevingoto of Tseminyu were the overall supervisors of social work day in Tseminyu. Ward/colony GBs and public of Tseminyu town participated in the activity. R. Khing, advisor for Vet&AH and Woman Resources also participated in mass social work at Tseminyu town.

Medziphema: Medziphema participated in the Swacchata Hi Seva mass social work at local ground Medziphema. The inaugural program for the mass social work was graced by the deputy speaker NLA, Zhaleo Rio.

While leading the mass movement, Zhaleo Rio exhorted the people to maintain a clean and green Nagaland and rebuild the state to a higher level.

Different sections of the society came forward and joined the cleanliness drive. They all took the pledge for a neat and cleaner state. All departments, NGOs, local bodies, tribal hohos, contractors etc. actively came forward and joined the cleanliness drive. The Swachhata Hi Seva campaign program was chaired by ADC Medziphema, Thsuvisie Phoji.
