DIMAPUR, OCT 2 (NPN): Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya, Tuesday asserted that the Gandhian thought of truth, morality and ethics remained integral to national consciousness and has influenced the social and administrative sectors of India in various aspects.
Delivering the valedictory address as chief host at the seminar on “Thoughts & Philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi”, organised to mark the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Bhavan Kohima on October 2, 2018, Acharya encouraged the students to embrace the life and message of Gandhi and to let it be a guide in their life. Governor said that the Centre’s initiative Swachh Bharat Mission, a Clean India by October 2, 2019 coinciding with 150th Anniversary of Gandhi and Make in India campaign, was aimed at enhancing the manufacturing capability of the country and significant part of the Gandhian discourse. In his key note address, minister for higher education, Temjen Imna Along, said that if one could invite a small principle of how Mahatma Gandhi lived in their lives, one could bring positive change not only in their towns and country but also the world.
Explaining that Mahatma Gandhi inspired the world with his faith in truth and justice for all mankind, the minister said “He was a great soul who loved even those who fought against his ideals to bring about peace with non-violence.”
Describing the youth as the future of the nation, Along encouraged all to shut down hypocrisy, greed and acknowledge living life with boldness and strength and follow the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi to change the world for the better.
Earlier, the welcome address and opening remark was made by the chairperson of the programme and NU vice chancellor, Prof Pardeshi Lal. Speeches on “Thoughts & Philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi” were presented by Prof Laltluangliana Khiangte, Department of Mizoram University, Dr S Priyokumar Singh, Visitor’s Nominee, St Josephs University, Nagaland, Dr (Prof) Manisha Barua, Guwahati University, Dr, Athungo, Nagaland University and Shri Shyam Bhurke, Writer and social worker from Pune. This was followed by panel discussion.
At the programme, the governor also handed over the Awards to the winners of the District level Quiz Competition that was conducted by the Department of Higher Education.
Earlier, Governor lit the inaugural lamp and paid tribute to the Father of the Nation. Secretary Home, Government of Nagaland, Rovilato Mor, administered the Pledge for Nonviolence and Peace.
