The three-day, state-wide mass social work launched by state chief minister Neiphiu Rio on September 29 culminated on October 2, in commemoration of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and Swachh Bharat Day.
During the day, cleanliness drives were carried out by various schools, NGOs, civil societies, political parties and citizens and the debris left behind by the monsoon rage in the form of flash floods and landslides across the state were also cleared.
Kiphire: In Kiphire, the three-day Swachh Bharat culmination programme was graced by minister of Soil & Water Conservation, Geology and Mining, V.Kashiho Sangtam at Deluxe Point. Reminding the gathering that cleanliness was also part of development, he said cleanliness was bounded duty and that every individual should take it as a challenge to keep their surrounding clean. He therefore appealed to the gathering to join hand in making Kiphire a better place. The culmination programme was chaired by SDO (C) Longtiba Sangtam while vote of thanks was delivered by EAC HQ Chinithung. Four wards in Kiphire town were awarded for maintaining cleanliness in the town. (Correspondent)
NWHD: Joining Dimapur Municipal Council’s (DMC’s) “A Better Dimapur” initiative, Naga Women Hoho Dimapur (NWHD) on Tuesday adopted the stretch of the road from Clock Tower to Holy Cross junction. The adoption programme was followed by cleanliness drive along the road stretch. NWHD has also plans to make the road stretch a plastic free zone. During the one year period, NWHD will be conducting various activities to beautify the road. DMC administrator Moa Sangtam while lauding the initiative of NWHD and said that women folk joining in the effort to make Dimapur a cleaner and healthier place will be an encouragement to the youngsters. He also appealed to the shop owners to extend their support in making the city clean. He said under the MoU signed between Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) and NWHD, the latter will be carrying out beautification and cleanliness drive along the road stretch. (Staff Reporter)
Satakha: Mass social work was conducted under Satakha sub-division from September 29 to October 2.
Minister of Agriculture and Corporation, Kaito Aye along with the head of offices and Commandant 111Bn BSF participated in the social work.
BJP Minority Morha: State BJP Minority Morcha president Rajiv Jha and his team organised a “Swachh Bharat abhiyan” cleanliness drive at High School Junction and BOC area at Kohima on October 2. A press release from BJP Nagaland media cell stated that, more than 70 party workers and well wisher participated in the event. Nagaland State BJP president Temjen Imna Along and organising secretary Ananta Mishra also took part in the cleanliness drive.
VAC: Advisor Youth Resources and Sports, Zale Neikha along with the Village Adoption Committee (VAC) of 15th Southern Angami-II A/C and villagers observed Swachh Bharat Day at Kezo Basa Village on October 2.
In his address, Neikha encouraged the villagers to keep the village clean so that it will become the cleanest model village in the state in near future. He also urged the villagers to stay united and cooperate with the village adoption committee members for development. The committee convener Dory Yanthan, district fishery officer, also extended happiness to work with the villagers and distributed the following items: Computer set for the students union; three Ceiling fan for community hall; LED bulb for schools, churches, community hall and every household; Four Piglets for village Community; Window pane/paint/wires for community hall; different winter vegetable seeds for the farmers and three sewing machines for Kezo Basa Women organisation.
LONGLENG: Swachh Bharat Mission (SMB) was observed at Longleng on October 2 at DC’s conference hall where sanitary workers were felicitated. The programme was held under the theme “Swachhata Hi Seva”.
According to DIPR report, while felicitating the sanitary workers, DC Longleng, John Tsulise Sangtam asserted that sanitary workers do the dirtiest job but their effort and contribution to the community was not acknowledged by the citizens. Maintaining that there are many ways to assist the sanitary workers, the DC said by changing our bad habits of littering around and maintaining cleanliness in the surrounding would help the sanitary workers to lighten their burden.
He also said that Swachh Bharat is a mission to create awareness for clean India and to involve all Indians to keep their surrounding clean for healthy living and cleaner environment. He said that the purpose of the mass social work was organized in line with Swachh Bharat to clear the roads, drainage and to clean the garbage. Asserting that cleanliness is a continuous process, he appealed to the gathered ward leaders not to wait for the government to clean their own surrounding but discharged their duty with upmost responsibility in keeping their respective wards sanitized.
DC also informed that non-violence pledge will be held on October 3 at DC’s conference hall and therefore urged all the HoDs and government officers to compulsorily attend the programme. He also lauded the ward leaders, HoDs, NGOs & civil societies, chamber of commerce & business community, educational institutions and the citizens of Longleng for actively participating in the mass social work.
Short speech was delivered by SBM chairman Longleng, Ngaipang Angh, and special prayer for clean India mission and sanitary workers was said by SDO civil Longleng, D. Robin. ADC & administrator Longleng Town Council, Temsuwati Longkumer chaired the programme and delivered the welcome address. The programme was attended by the ward leaders, all ambassador of SBM Longleng, DBs& GBs, sanitary workers and NGOs.
SSP: Sainik School Punglwa (SSP) organised a mass cleanliness drive in the school premises and at the neighbouring village of Punglwa on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on October 2. According to PRO HQ IGAR (N) stated that Gp Capt Sharad R Keskar, principal of the school initiated the drive followed by cadets, staff and families. They cleaned up the school’s campus and periphery of the school. Principal appreciated the efforts of the cadets, staff and families at the cleanliness drive.
NCSU: Nagaland Contractors’ & Suppliers’ Union (NCSU) along with the officials and staff of National Informatics Center (NIC), Kohima District Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection cleaned secretariat road from September 29 to October 2 marking the occasion of Swacchata Hi Seva.
HYS: Hindu Yuva Sanga (HYS) organised a Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in collaboration with Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) on October 2 near G.S. Road area Dimapur.
A press release from HYS stated that the convenor for the cleanliness drive was Pritam Dasgupta, who along with the task force led the team in cleaning polluted areas of G.S. Road, Dimapur.
Advisor of HYS, Monoj Bhattacharjee inspired and motivated the members to organise such activities on regular basis.
SBI: State Bank of India, Kohima based branches also took part in the cleanliness dive by cleaning the stretch from AIR to BSNL office as part of Swachhta Hi Seva on October 2.
SBI Regional Business Office Dimapur: SBI Regional Business Office Dimapur under the campaign “Swachhata Hi Seva 2018” conducted a cleanliness drive at Supermarket Complex on October 2.
DCC: Dimapur District Congress Committee (DCC) organized mass social work drive on October 2 at Super Market area, Dimapur on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti. DCC expressed gratitude to the party workers for taking part in the social work and all those for their assistance.
GHMSS, GYC: Gorkha Hindu Milan Sewa Sangh (GHMSS)and Gorkha Youth Club (GYC) Dimapur conducted social work as part of clean India Swachh Bharat Mission at Signal Rana colony area on October 2.
93 Bn BSF: The troops of 93 Bn BSF organized Swachhata Hi Seva at BSF Campus Chedema from September 19 to October 2. A press release from 93 Bn BSF stated that cleaning of drains, collection of house hold wastage, awareness campaign, Swachhata related nataks, wall paintings & building compost etc were carried out. On the closing day on October 2, Pankaj Kumar, Dy Comdt (OC Rear) appealed to all the participants to have a sense of responsibilities in making the surrounding clean and also a plastic free zone.
Dimapur Bongs: Dimapur Bongs in associated with DMC and kids from Kidzee School initiated to cleanliness drive in the city as a part of Swachh Bharath Abhiyaan on October 2. A press release from Dimapur Bongs stated that, under the leadership of president, Dimapur Bongs, Gopal Debnath cleaned the whole of Kalibari Road as allotted by DMC. Students of Kidzee School also took part in the activity and learned about the importance of teamwork and to keep their surroundings clean.
Indisen village: As part of the state-wide mass social work, the Dimapur district led by district administration conducted cleanliness drive from September 29 to October 2.
According to DIPR report, speaking at the culmination programme held at DC conference hall on October 2, DC Dimapur, Sushil Kumar Patel, said that conducting the mass social work in Dimapur was more like a celebration and a wonderful experience to see people from different communities and walks of life coming together for a single cause and appealed the people to make it a continuous process. He acknowledged different colony youths, chairman, NGOs and all the individuals who had participated in the social work. DC also expressed appreciation to various departments and individuals who had provided machineries during the cleanliness drive.
Cleanest village/ward award was won by Indisen village, Duncan Bosti and Kuda Village B Khel bagged the second and third positions. The programme was chaired by EAC Dimapur, Tsidi while invocation prayer was pronounced by Lima, youth evangelist. ADC, Dimapur, Albert Ezung proposed the vote of thanks.
Team Clean Dimapur: Team clean Dimapur organized social work in collaboration with Cornerstone school and college and Fingerprint Tuesday, starting from Bata Charali via Holy cross junction, Dimapur.
St. Joseph’s School Mon: St. Joseph’s School, Mon conducted social work on October 2. A press release from SJS teacher-in-charge stated that dministrator, teachers and students participated together in this campaign cleaning school and its surrounding area on account of Gandhi Jayanti.
Immanuel College: Immanuel College (IC) conducted a cleanliness drive/social work with the initiative of the student council, faculty members, students and non teaching staff along the vicinity of the college on October 2. A press release from IC media cell convener, Akutu Poireng stated that, filling up of potholes, making and installing bamboo dustbins, whitewashing the walls, clearing off the waste were done under the supervision of the faculty members and student council. The college also thanked DMC and other well wishers for providing assistance towards success of social work.
MGMHSS: MGM Hr. Sec School (MGMHSS) observed Gandhi Jayanti with head master, B. Paul highlighting the students on the principles of Gandhiji and about Swacchta for personal hygiene and drive for clean habits and clean surrounding on October 2. Students took part in activities and speech in the assembly as a mark of respect to Gandhiji. The programme was followed by a peace rally from school to PWD junction and cleanliness drive.
Grace Academy Thahekhu: Grace Academy Thahekhu (GAT) organised a cleanliness drive on October 2 marking the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The students, teachers and administrator of the school participated in the drive, which included cleaning of the school campus, entire surroundings and the adjoining neighbouring areas including nearby shops.
