Joint Committee on Prevention of Illegal Immigrants (JCPI) under the aegis of Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) met the state government constituted committee in Kohima on Friday and handed over supplementary points of JCPI findings to the committee headed by commissioner & secretary, Abhishek Singh.
JCPI through its media cell said the commissioner & secretary, during interaction, assured the JCPI delegation that all aspects of the issues related to illegal immigration would be covered.
Commissioner & secretary also reportedly stated that the government committee’s interim report was submitted to the government within 15 days of the committee’s formation and the final report would be placed within two months (within November 2018).
On its part, the JCPI said it reiterated that Dimapur should be brought under the purview of Inner Line Permit (ILP) at all cost.
JPIC said the meeting ended on a very cordial note and it extended fullest cooperation to the committee.
On August 18, 2018, JCPI had submitted its first representation to the then chief secretary. During their meeting, a committee was immediately formed.
The committee was tasked to submit an interim report within 15 days on comprehensive action plan and mechanisms to streamline ILP, to effectively curb illegal immigrants and to bring out a strong policy to safeguard the rights and security of indigenous inhabitants Nagaland.
Meanwhile, JPCI has submitted additional and supplementary suggestions to the government.
While appreciating the government constituted committee for coming out with the interim report, JCPI urged the committee to insert supplementary points in the final draft.
The points included issuance of Aadhaar only by competent authorities especially in Dimapur and Kohima and ceasing of outsourcing Aadhaar enrolment works; re-verification of all Indigenous inhabitant certificate/ST certificate issued in the last 20 years, checking rampant issuance of land patta, permanent resident certificates, birth certificates, intensive revision and cross checking of Nagaland electoral-roll.
JCPI expressed hope that all aspects of the matter discussed thus far including the demand for bringing Dimapur under the purview of ILP would be addressed positively.
