In its efforts to reach out to the farmers and assist them, Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) conducted various activities at different blocks.
ABOI BLOCK: ATMA Mon, Aboi block conducted demonstration programme on the topics “nursery bed preparation of tomato” and “nursery bed preparation of cabbage” at Aopao village on October 23.
A press release from ATMA Mon stated that ATMs Taigin and Tingten of Aboi block along with resource person Leiwang Konyak conducted the demonstration programme.
The resource person demonstrated to the farmers on proper method and practices of nursery bed preparation. He also emphasized on the importance of proper soil preparation while transplanting and planting the saplings.
Seeds of cabbage and tomato were distributed to the farmers. Altogether 20 farmers attended the programme
Chunlikha Block: ATMA Chunlikha block inaugurated Orange Farm School on September 27 at Wadzon village with M. Pienyu as resource person.
A press release by ATMA Chunlikha block stated that Pienyu spoke on concept of farm school and its sustainability. He also spoke on insect pest management where oranges are prone to disease attacks in this region and importance on FYM was also highlighted.
A brief introduction on farm establishment was presented by farm school teacher, Ruzuthong, who also proposed vote of thanks. A total of 11 farmers were benefitted from the programme.
ATMA Longleng: ATMA Longleng conducted demonstration programme on October 18 and 19, at Hukphang and Alayong villages respectively.
A press release from, PD ATMA & DSO Longleng Ngangshimeyu stated that the resource person of the programme at Hukphang village was AI, department of agriculture C. Amei Phom who demonstrated package of practices for cultivation of tomato and broccoli. The programme was chaired by Aienla BTM and vote of thanks was delivered by Kitila ATM Longleng block. Altogether 12 farmers attended the training programme.
The resource person at Alayong village was ATM Longleng block, Kitlia who demonstrated packages of practices for cultivation of cabbage. The programme was chaired by Aienla BTM Longleng block and altogether ten farmers attended the demonstration programme.
ATMA Peren: ATMA Peren, in collaboration with scientists and experts from KVK, Peren conducted a farmer scientist interaction and joint visit on October 16 at Ngwalwa village. The main objective of the programme was to bring technical expertise to the famers’ doorsteps and provide farmers a platform to interact with experts.
A press release by ATMA stated that ATMA staff, deputy PD Yezaho Swu; deputy PD Akam Zeliang along with KVK Peren, Dr. Z. James Kikon; program coordinator, Dr. Moa Naro; farm manager and Dr. Patu K Zeliang, SMS plant breeding, facilitated the programme.
Roles and activities of ATMA were highlighted by Akam Zeliang and Dr Z James Kikon on KVK activities and strategies. Discussions were also held with the farmers on integrated farming, Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and bio-control methods. Importance of biodiversity management by community preservation and protection of indigenous seeds and seed banks were also discussed by Dr Patu K Zeliang.
Another highlight of the programme was a farm visit to a progressive farmer, Ranglia. Altogether, 18 farmers from Punglwa, Gaili and Ngwalwa attended the programme.
Tobu Block: ATMA Tobu block, Mon district conducted training and demonstration programme from October 18 to 19 at Changlangshu and Monyakshu villages respectively.
A press release by ATMA Mon stated that, under Changlangshu village, programme on package and practices of maize, cabbage and yard long bean was demonstrated and a training programme on weed management in maize cultivation was imparted to the farmers by resource person ATM Tiamongba and Nyakba. 14 farmers were benefitted altogether. In Monyakshu village, demonstration programme on low cost vermin-compost pit and seed bed nursery for chilli and training on package and practices of tomato was imparted to 13 farmers by resource person BTM Jungshi and ATM Nyakba.
ATMA Wokha: ATMA Wokha celebrated women farmer’s day on October 15 at DC conference hall Wokha. A press release by ATMA Wokha stated that, T Subenthung Yanthan deputy project director explained the importance and concept of women farmer’s day by encouraging the women folks to continuously put more efforts. Asali Murry a progressive farmer shared her success story and farming experiences of the past 20 years and encouraged the women groups to work hard with zeal and determination. Two SHGs- sunflower SHG and Eyingro SHG from Chukitong and Wokha blocks presented their status report and various agriculture activities undertaken. Power-point presentation on women in agriculture was given by Lothungbeni Murry assistant technology manager. In another session, formation and function of SHGs/FIGs was delivered by Zachamo Humtsoe (ATM). Short video on innovative women farming by Asali Murry was shown. The programme was chaired by deputy project director, Yanglen Y. Jami and vote of thanks by ATM Elilo Kikon.
