Capacity building program on Soil Health at Longjang Village

DIMAPUR

ATMA, Kobulong block, Mokokchung, organized a capacity building program at Longjang village on June 4, 2025 to educate farmers on soil health cards and their role in improving crop productivity.
The session aimed to enhance farmers’ knowledge and skills in soil health, nutrient management, and fertilizer application. Temjenmongla, Soil Conservation Assistant, Department of Soil and Water Conservation, Mokokchung, served as the resource person. She explained the importance of soil testing and the benefits of using Soil Health Cards and informed the famers that these cards help them understand their soil’s quality and type, allowing them to make informed decisions for better farming practices.
She further stressed the need for accurate soil sampling, highlighting that only a small fraction of soil is tested in the laboratory, making representative samples crucial. The session also covered the use of agricultural lime, along with micro and macro nutrients to improve soil fertility.
Farmers received hands-on training in soil sampling procedures, followed by the distribution of agricultural lime provided by the Department of Soil and Water Conservation, Mokokchung.
A total of 11 farmers attended the program.
