Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) has informed the citizens of Kohima town that the timing for disposal of garbage at designated areas has been fixed from 6 p.m. onwards which will be collected and disposed of by KMC every morning, KMC administrator Kovi Meyase stated.
Taking note that some individuals and business establishments were repeatedly dumping garbage even during the day, KMC pointed out that unless the desired support was not forthcoming, any attempt to keep the town clean and sanitized will continue to fail.
In this regard, KMC has urged everyone to strictly adhere to the timing. Action will be initiated against violators, it added.
Site open: KMC has informed all Ward Panchayat chairmen/convenors, sanitation committee under KMC that the road to Lierie scientific landfill site will be open from December 1 and only vehicles carrying segregated wastes will be allowed to enter.
Caution: KMC has cautioned all vehicle owners including public transport operators and commercial vehicles not to sweep/clean their vehicles and dump the resultant litter on the road or roadside or parking lots.
KMC has asked all vehicle users to keep portable dustbins inside their vehicles and dispose of their wastes only in the KMC designated collection points or places. Anyone found littering or disposing such waste will be penalized as per the appropriate Solid Waste Management Rules, KMC stated.
