Swachhta Pakhwada ‘Literary Day’ was held on Saturday, at council hall Kacharigoan (Phevima) village Dimapur.
The program was organised by the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) commissionerate, Dimapur in collaboration with Kacharigoan (Phevima) Students Union Dimapur (KSUD).
In the program, a speech was delivered by Village Council chairman, Vitho Zao where he gave various examples of cleanliness. Pointing out that a poor attitude to cleanliness was prevalent, especially in public places, he encouraged people to maintain the same standards for cleanliness both in the home and outside it. He also mentioned that the village had recently been awarded by the PHE department for being among Dimapur district’s top ten villages in implementing the Open Defecation Free effort.
Along with the Rural department, the village has also started to construct a compost pit where thrash can biodegrade, which is also one of the projects that the village has adopted said Zao.
Zao also mentioned that the students’ union will be celebrating its silver jubilee this year and expressed hope that they will give their best to deliver a clean environment.
Highlights of the program included a skit on Swachh Bharat presented by Phevima Students Union (PSU), debate competition on the topic “Should cleanliness be the responsibility of the villagers or the village organisations”, essay competition and drawing competition.
The program was chaired by RV Chonreingam, welcome address was delivered by PSU president Pelevito Kiso, invocation prayer was pronounced by Phevima Baptist Church Reverend pastor KN Kele and later vote of thanks was delivered by PSU general secretary Toseno Kennao.
