Agreeing with “widespread disappointment” over the controversy surrounding centenary celebration of Naga Club’s formation, the Western Angami Public Organisation (WAPO) Tuesday maintained that the controversy should be understood and responded to correctly “to prevent needless damage to the health of our young Naga family.”
In a press release, WAPO president, Lhouphrevilie Rino, and general secretary, Keviphotsü Khwükha, stated that the differences that have surfaced were not surprising given the context of the accelerating crises in which “our struggling society’s leaders” were compelled to make decisions for “our progress into the future.”
Paying tribute to Naga leaders and their unyielding efforts to take Naga people forward on the roadmap they have inherited from their history, WAPO called upon Naga leaders to inspire one another and the public to meet the increasing challenges properly so that Nagas may evolve the right way to tomorrow. “Our crisis calls for nothing less” WAPO added.
Important reality Nagas should recognise, the organisation said was that Naga Club, NSF and all Nagas want to celebrate the centenary for the same reason –– to rejoice together as one people that Naga struggle for their sacred aspirations started with the formation of the Naga Club. “What Naga Club went on to achieve in the following years is history,” it stated.
WAPO said it was, therefore, happy that organisations at all levels in all regions would be celebrating the centenary.
WAPO opined that Nagas must now create the space needed to resolve the differences by giving sufficient time for consultation since what needed to be clarified has been clarified in response to the allegations and charges levelled to individuals that have caused the unfortunate controversy.
