Ramshackle school suffering age & capacity problems
CEC, Phangsang secretary, Temjenmangyang Jamir, in a press release stated that the building is in a dilapidated condition without being renovated for the past many years causing hardships to teachers and students. It added that rainwater leaks through the roof and holes in the decaying bamboo walls cause flooding in the classrooms and teachers’ common room. The cold of winter and noises outside also makes the teaching and learning process inconvenient, it added.
This has been going on for many years causing much distress to the CEC, parents and teachers, the release claimed.
It further pointed out that GPS, Phangsang had been merged with Government High School, Phangsang sometime back but the present GHS building does not have the capacity to accommodate all the primary and secondary students.
The CEC also stated that this GHS is the only one in the area catering to students of four villages and one town, and it is the only hope for many students in the area seeking education.
Likewise, GPS, Phangsang also has reasonable enrolment with students coming from the neighbouring villages too.
Under such circumstances, CEC Phangsang has ardently urged the concerned authority to look into the matter so that children may study in well-furnished classrooms which, it added, was their right.
Also pointing out that the academic session for the year has come to an end, the CEC suggested that it would be prudent (and a great blessing for the school) for the concerned department to renovate the school building during the holiday period.
