A one-day Seminar & Project Expo on “Rock Art in India and its preservation” was organised by the History department of St. Joseph University (SJU), on November 5 to create awareness about rock art in India.
A press release from PRO SJU, Fr. Justin stated that vice chancellor, Dr. D. Gnanadurai, exhorted the gathering and encouraged the students to participate more in skill enhancement activities. He also mentioned that apart from acquiring a degree, skill was also a requirement to survive in an actual working environment. The vice chancellor and Sr. Thianes distributed certificates to the students.
The students delivered special talks on the topics “Definition and types of rock”, “Importance of rock art and threats to rock art” and “Preservation and management of rock art sites”. The talk was followed by an exhibition on Indian rock art sites created by the 12 groups of MA (History) students. Earlier, a welcome address was delivered by head of department, Dr. Avinuo Chupuo.
The main objective of the seminar was to enable students to understand the subject’s broader sense and equip them with knowledge about the richness of Indian rock art.
