
St. Joseph College, Jakhama (SJC) which has been conferred Autonomous status by the University Grants Commission (UGC), held its inaugural programme as an autonomous college on November 20 at the college indoor stadium.
The programme was graced by director of Higher Education, Kuholi Chishi as special guest and Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, bishop of Kohima as guest of honour.
A press release by SJC Jakhama HoD English, James H. K stated that, Kuholi Chishi urged the students and the management to continue for excellence.
She exhorted the students to believe in their dreams in ensuring a safe landing wherever they went.
Kuholi was also awarded a Certificate of Recognition and appreciation by the college for her significant contribution in the field of Higher Education in the state and her vital role to SJC as director of the department. Bishop of Kohima, in his words of felicitation pointed out that the Josephites could now boast of labour past and a promising future.
Earlier, principal Fr. Dr. Sebastian Ousepparampil, in his welcome address remarked that the college autonomy has now opened the most crucial gate to future development and challenges.
He also presented the prospects and arenas of an autonomous college and the dream to become “deemed university” in the future.
The programme also highlighted Manipuri dance, choir, Lotha cultural dance, Rhythm Shackles, Swalla Girls and Stack Ivories. Earlier, the programme hosted by William Ramai and Natalia Rhutso began with an invocation by Rev. Fr. Dr. Boniface.
The programme was attended by Josephite’s family, well-wishers, other dignitaries, village elders, board members and other special invitees.
