North East Executive Council (NEEC) of the JD(U) party has slammed the decision of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to submit the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 report in its present form in the Parliament on January 7.
In a press note, chairman NEEC Senchumo Lotha and JD (U) general secretary Afaque Ahmed Khan said that the report had been haphazardly wrapped up despite strong opposition from almost all the stake holders.
“The report is arbitrarily summed up rejecting all amendments moved by the different members and is therefore bereft of all rationality and does not intend to serve the interest of the indigenous people of Assam as well as the Northeast,” it added.
Reaffirming to stand by its July 8, 2018 national executive meeting resolution, they said JD(U) will not support the Bill both inside and outside the parliament and will leave no stones unturned to ensure that the proposed Bill is withdrawn in the larger interest of the affected people.
It further extended support those civil societies like the NESO and AASU, championing the cause for opposing of the said bill.
Meanwhile, NEEC extended New Year greetings to the people of North East and wished that the 2019 would be a peaceful and successful year for one and all.
The party also assured to carry forward all issues of regional interest with vigour and dedication, till its logical conclusion.
