ICAR-NRC on Mithun marks foundation day

ICAR-NRC on Mithun (NRCM), Medziphema, Nagaland celebrated its three decades of its existence on June 2, at Medziphema campus. 
ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun director, Dr. Abhijit Mitra, in a press release said that a Mobile App- “Mithun Mitra” (Friend of Mithun), developed in collaboration with ICAR-IVRI, was also launched which will be further upgraded to include features like farmers’ registration and interactive modules. 
R. Khing, advisor, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, Government of Nagaland chaired the celebration.
Khing congratulated the staff and scientists of ICAR-NRCM for the journey of 30 years.
Speaking at the programme as guest o honour, former director of the institute Dr. Chandan Rajkhowa, recalled his long association of nearly 12 years with the institute. 
Principal secretary, department of veterinary & animal husbandry, Nagaland M. K Mero, stressed on improvement of Mithun husbandry through support of banking schemes and assured of his department’s full support to the development of Mithun farming.
Earlier, delivering a welcome address, director, ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Dr. Abhijit Mitra, said that Mithun was becoming a multipurpose animal because besides meat it also gives milk, highly priced skin, and it has tremendous work power.
The programme was also graced by Director, Department of Veterinary &AH, Nagaland, Dr. Kiba. MD, NLDB and the Scientists from Nagaland Centre of ICAR-RCNERH, CoVS, Jalukie and state government officials from Nagaland also graced the occasion.
Besides other progressive farmers, 55 Mithun farmers from the states of Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur also attended the programme.
A band from SFS Higher Secondary School, Medziphema played the National Anthem.
