All Nagaland Government Primary Teachers’ Association (Central ANGPTA), in a memorandum to the Nagaland Chief Election Officer (CEO), has issued a two point charter of demands.
A press release from ANGPTA president, James Ruokuoselhou and general secretary, Hoshika H. Sumi, while extending its support to the demands made by the ANGPTA Mokokchung District Unit, explained that Samuel Sumi is a primary teacher posted at Government High School Sumi, Mokokchung and also the president of ANGPTA Mokokchung District. He was designated as the first polling officer at Kubza village, polling station-13, 26 A/C Aonglenden Nagaland in the May 28 by-poll.
The release claimed that some goons “vitiated the atmosphere” and destroyed the polling materials and machines after which they came looking for Samuel Sumi and harassed him verbally, assaulted him physically and further threatened him without any reason. According to ANGPTA, the lack of security showed a casual attitude towards the safety of polling officials.
While strongly condemning the act, the association demanded that the authority conduct a proper and speedy investigation and punish the culprits as per law at the earliest. It also demanded a guarantee of Samuel Sumi and his family’s safety so that they may lead a normal life.
