ANCSU reminds govt on KSC land issue

All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) has reminded the state government that the time frame it had asked to address the Kohima Science College (KSC) land encroachment issue has expired months ago and cautioned that the union could be compelled to confront with the government on failure to pay heed to the hue and cry of the student community.

In a press note, ANCSU president, Katho P Awomi, and general secretary, Vimeyiekho Vitso, have, therefore, strongly appealed to the state government to come out clear on the reports regarding the land encroachment issue, status report of cases regarding land encroachment of government colleges/institutions in all districts and report on setting up of common scholarship cell.

Further, the union affirmed that it would not accept anything less or more on the memorandum submitted to the chief minister dated on August 10, 2018 i.e. a separate cell for implementing all kinds of scholarships, settlement of land encroachment issues in all districts and total eviction of illegal encroachers and infrastructures.

Meanwhile, ANCSU has appreciated and thanked the state government, particularly Minister of Higher & Technical Education Temjen Imna Along, for acquiring the second and final instalment for Post Matric Scholarship (PMS) 2017-2018 after much delay by the central ministry. It said sanction order was received on January 11, 2019.

The union said it was optimistic that the students would be receiving the remaining scholarship amount in a week’s time after completion of necessary approvals.

ANCSU also said that state merit scholarship beneficiaries for the year 2017-2018, whose scholarship was denied due to the wrong Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) indication in the marksheet, has been reconsidered by the department and accordingly the government has released additional fund as appealed by the union. “As informed by the department and confirmed from the bank, the said merit beneficiaries scholarship amounts has been deposited to the bank for disbursement,” ANCSU claimed.

In this regard, the union has appealed to the public not to speculate and circulate “unauthenticated allegations on scholarship” as that could invite “apprehensions from the central ministry” and result in sabotaging the funding of PMS.
