Language and culture trg programme inaugurated

A “Seven-Day Training Programme on Language and Culture for Language Officers and Assistant Language Officers” was inaugurated on Monday at Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, Meriema, with NU, Kohima campus, pro vice chancellor, professor R.C. Gupta, as chief guest.
Dr. L. Bijenkumar Singh, course director, through a press release said that the programme is organized by Centre for Naga Tribal Language Studies (CNTLS), Nagaland University, Kohima Campus from June 4 to 11.
At the inaugural programme, Dr. L. Bijenkumar, in his key note address, explained that the training programme aims to expose participants to various aspects of language and culture, with its core focus on preservation and promotion of Naga languages and culture.
He said that in the wake of the “Heritage Studies” text books being introduced in the school syllabi from the next academic session, i.e. 2019, the centre believes that LOs and ALOs who are the key stakeholders, directly or indirectly, will find the training to be helpful in enriching their working knowledge on this subject.
While, chief guest in his speech shared his opinion on endangered languages and how people should preserve and promote mother tongues least they become endangered languages.
Altogether, around 30 participants were present at the inaugural programme.
