
The Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) conducted a training program on “Water Quality Monitoring & Surveillance ” for villages/habitations falling under the urban division of Kohima, at the Conference Hall of Kohima Urban Division on Wednesday.
Resource person, Dzesetsino Kiso Chemist (PHED) stated that water testing has seven different parameters that have to be checked before water is declared safe for drinking. Odour, colour, turbidity and taste can be physically detected, and Ph value, chemical contamination and bacteriological tests can be done only in a laboratory.
Dzesetsino added that the PHE department has set up laboratories in every district head quarter where citizens can test their own sources of water.
The PHE department Urban Division Kohima also issued ten Field Testing Kits (FTKs) to villagers to test their own water sources periodically after the training is complete.
The program was chaired by SDO PHED, Er. Theyiesetuo, invocation was offered by Khetoto Sema (DAO) PHED Urban Kohima. PHED Urban Kohima executive engineer, Er P. Khetoi Awomi delivered the key note address and the vote of thanks was pronounced by Thepfulie, Sanitation & Hygiene consultant WSSO, PHED.
