
The 14th scientific advisory committee meeting of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Phek was held at KVK conference hall on February 26.
In the meeting, district forest officer, Vetatso Demo, emphasized on soil fertility management through low cost vermin-composting and protected cultivation while EAC Pfutsero, Abeinuo Jasmine Ashau suggested undertaking various climate resilient technologies as contingencies measures during various vagary of nature.
The chairman of the committee, director, ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Medziphema, Dr. Abhijit Mitra, in his address, suggested infusing various need-based and farm oriented technologies to agrarian community of the district while emphasizing on need-based crop production, processing and marketing of the farmers produce. He urged farmers to have a sense of belongingness for available resources rather than a subsidy oriented approach. The meeting was chaired by director, ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Medziphema, Dr. Abhijit Mitra, senior scientist and head I/C, KVK Phek, Dr. Esther T Longkumer, welcomed the members of the SAC and presented the progress report of 2018-19, while ACTO (horticulture), Dr Rinku Bharali, presented the annual action plan for the year 2019-20. SMS (animal science) KVK-Phek, Dr Debojyoti Borkotoky delivered the vote of thanks.
The programme was followed by a discussion and suggestions from members of the committee that included officials from district administration, agriculture and allied departments, NGOs and progressive farmers.
