AICRP (vegetable crops), Nagaland centre, SASRD, NU under the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP), conducted a farmers’ training program on “Scientific cultivation of summer vegetable crops”, at Zhuikhu village on February 26. The training was organized to highlight to farmers, the importance of vegetable cultivation and plant protection in summer vegetables crops, and to make them aware of benefits and advantages of growing vegetables.
A press release from TSP AICRP (VC) department of Horticulture SASRD: NU, professor Akali Sema stated that the technical session-I on “Scientific cultivation of summer vegetable crops” was conducted by assistant professor, B.VOC program, SASRD:NU, N. Walling; and technical session-II on “Plant protection of summer vegetable crops” by scientist AICRP on Pigeon Pea, SASRD: NU, Kavi Sumi.
The program started with a brief introduction by professor, Akali Sema, who highlighted the importance of vegetables for the farmers, and explained the different types of summer vegetables that can be grown successfully in a village like Zhuikhu. The technical session was followed by an interactive session with the farmers, conducted by scientist AICRP-VC, SASRD: NU, Dr. Moakala Changkiri, in which farmers shared their opinions and views.
The wrap up session was conducted by scientist training in-charge AICRP-VC, SASRD: NU, Dr. Waluniba, and scientist AICRP-VC, SASRD: NU, Dr. Aastik Jha.
The farmers also learnt about some important natural enemies (farmers friends), and how to identify and preserve them in their field.
The GB of Zhuikhu village, on behalf of all the farmers, expressed gratitude to AICRP-vegetable crops, department of Horticulture, SASRD: NU for organizing the training program.
The training was coordinated by Dr. Waluniba, Dr. Aastik Jha and Dr. Moakala Changkiri.
Seeds of summer vegetable crops were distributed to all the participants. The training was attended by 66 farmers.
