TANSA rejects DAN’s enhanced rent

Tenants’ Association Naga Shopping Arcade (TANSA), Dimapur has resolved not to pay the enhanced rent from April 2019 if the demands of the association were not met.

In a representation addressed to the chairman of Development Authority of Nagaland (DAN), TANSA president, Pukhaho Yepthomi, and the secretary, Yarmong stated that the association has been requesting the department to look into matters of hygiene, maintenance of complex building, drainage system etc.

The tenants have been diligently abiding with DAN and paying the rent and maintaining basic restoration at their own cost, the association stated. However, they said it was unfair when monthly rent is enhanced without fulfilling the plea of the tenants. What irked the tenants most was the imposition of 15% service charge besides the monthly rental without undertaking any maintenance work, the association president said.

Therefore, TANSA has asked DAN to completely maintain the structures which has become insecure due to non-maintenance and  to make the complex presentable by fixing windows, shutters, proper drainage system and clearance of water logging at the basement. “Unless and until DAN perform the requirements, TANSA will not comply with the office order and continue to pay the same rent (old rate),” the representation stated.

It may be mentioned that the rent of Naga Shopping Arcade was enhanced from Rs.5 per square feet to Rs.9.50 per square feet for ground floor and for the first floor from Rs.4.50 psft to Rs.7.60 psft.
