Citizenship Bill threat to existence of Nagas: ANCSU

All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) Saturday maintained that the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) 2016 has “immeasurable threat” to the existence of Nagas.

In a press release, ANCSU president Katho P Awomi general secretary Vimeyiekho Vitso said various political leaders of the state have “unwisely spoken” in favour of CAB, but young minds of the state clearly know that “this bill is catastrophe to the integrity of Nagas.”
ANCSU said it was “extensively disturbed by the treacherous” CAB 2016, which it claimed was “not only against the interest of the whole North-East tribal citizens, but also an infringement to the peaceful co-existence of the region.”
The union stated that the youths of the state have posed unflinching faith upon the leaders over the years. However, it stated that “some egoistical political leaders” have taken the advantage even to the extent of “betraying the mandate of the youths and perhaps, even in a situation to compromise the safety of the Nagas just to please its leaders in return for personal benefits.”
The union recalled that soon after the CAB was proposed, the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) voiced out its opposition to the bill and ANCSU also fervently supported the movement.
ANCSU has therefore appealed to the leaders to be the mouthpiece of Naga aspirations and “not a demon to Nagas.” The union also appealed to political/social leaders to restraint from “misleading the Nagas which may favour the CAB in action or otherwise as it may invite ugly retaliations towards any such betrayal.”
