Yimchungru Union Kohima (YUK) celebrated its silver jubilee under the theme “marking camaraderie and fostering excellence” with advisor Rural Development, Dr. Neikiesalie Kire as special guest and president Yimchungru tribal council S. Throngso as special invitee at NBCC convention hall Kohima on Saturday.
Dr. Kire in his address lauded YUK for completing 25 years of its existence. He said that Kohima town was home not only for Angamis and termed Kohima as not only a mini Nagaland wherein all tribes including the outsiders resided. He stressed on the need to live together in peace and harmony with different tribes both in good and bad times as no society or human being can live isolated. He lamented that many Naga individuals especially living in metro cities kept distance and came back in search of society only in times of difficulties.
Emphasizing the need of contribution to the society by every individual, he remarked that all have the role to contribute for the betterment of the society instead of blaming the government always. Based on developmental activities in the state, he also lamented the misuse of Article 371 (A) by the Nagas, which he termed as an obstacle for many developmental activities in the state. In this regard, he encouraged the Naga people to re-look and do something for the benefit of Nagaland.
Stressed on the jubilee theme, Dr. Kire urged the people to put into practice and not only on paper. He challenged them to have serious thought on skill development and creating of job opportunities as government job was already saturated.
Advisor SCERT, IPR & VG Toshi Wungtung in his address said this jubilee was the celebration of peaceful co-existence with different people and community in the state capital. While lauding the union for celebrating its silver jubilee, he called upon the community to strengthen the Naga unity and be the agent of peaceful co-existence with different communities.
