Advisor, School Education, KT Sukhalu on Friday asserted that Nagaland has strong youth population with many educated, but, lamented that it has failed to utilize youth’s energy to its full potential. He was speaking as chief guest at the 21st Foundation Day and 8th Higher Secondary Commencement programme of Christina Memorial Higher Secondary School (CMHSS) Aoyimti, Dimapur at the school auditorium.
Though Nagaland is a progressive state, Sukhalu lamented that the state does not have industries to generate income and totally depends on the central government’s funds.
Stating that employment in government sector has come to a saturation point, Sukhalu urged the younger population to take up skill and entrepreneurship so that they could contribute to the society in a more efficient way.
The advisor also asserted on the importance of counselling in all schools and encouraged the teachers to observe the traits of the students through counselling and encourage them (students) to pursue their goals. He also spoke on the importance of nurturing the students on customs and traditions so that it will help the students know about the basic foundation of one’s identity.
Sukhalu also cited an example of a school in Phek districts, where teachers have an informal session with the students, teaching them about the traditional customary practices, weaving, folk songs and dances.
Commencement pledge for higher secondary students and journey of CMHSS was highlighted by the school principal, Temsujungla. She also recalled the two milestones achieved by the school that included receiving regular recognition from NBSE and hundred percent pass percentage result in the HSSLC exam, 2019.
Greetings were delivered by Aoyimti village council chairman, I Nüklu Jamir and senior division education officer Pikuto Sema. Highlights of the programme included cultural display, songs and rewards and recognition ceremony which were handed over by wife of KT Sukhalu. At the programme, dedicatory prayer was delivered by Reverend Z Yapang Aier.
