District administration Wokha in collaboration with Lotha Eloe Hoho (LEH) under the government policy for restricting the use of plastic in Nagaland donated seven sewing machines and also materials as one time assistance for cloth bag making. The machines were handed over at the inauguration of tailoring and training centre in Wokha on June 1 at LEH Ki, DIPR reported.
Inaugurating the centre, DC, Wokha, Dr.Manazir Jeelani Samoon said that the small contribution from district administration and Wokha Town Council (WTC) will be helpful to gain meaningful employment and livelihood. Dr. Manazir said that the centre was a long term initiative, and urged the members to think in terms of how to generate revenue to make it more sustainable.
He also appealed to the civil societies to spread the awareness about the use of cloth bags. He also urged all to take cleanliness seriously and make it a daily habit.
Advisor, LEH, Orenponi Ezung thanked the district administration and WTC for the help extended to uplift the women community.
ADC & administrator WTC and SDO (C), Wokha, Chonbenthung Ezung also spoke.
BBBP tailoring centre: Similarly, a tailoring centre located at Police Point Wokha was also inaugurated by DC, Wokha on June 1, with a view to create self employment opportunities for girls and women.
In his speech, the DC said that under such initiatives a livelihood opportunity will be created for those women, who will be employed and engaged in the centre.
He also hoped that this will become a sustainable centre and whatever income generated out of this some small amount can be invested in purchasing more raw materials for the expansion of the tailoring centre. He also informed that as a token of support, the district administration will pay the house rent for six months.
