As a follow-up to the state government’s policy to restrict use of plastic, a paper bag distribution point was inaugurated at Wokha town on June 3. The outlet was set up by Team Metamorphosis, NSRLM and Self Help Groups (SHGs) in collaboration with district administration.
A press statement from TM chief, M. James Tungoe and secretary general, Oreno Ngullie stated that the distribution point was inaugurated by DC Wokha, Dr. Manazir Jeelani Samoon.
In his speech, the DC spoke on how to make paper and cloth bag more attractive for public consumption since polythene bag harmful in nature was available in open market at cost effective price. He therefore said that for cost effectiveness, the material should be durable and available readily. DC also pointed out that paper bags to be produced must have excellent service at reasonable rate, quality assurance and high cost effectiveness.
The DC further said that since the SHGs had come forward to make paper bags, they should also not forget for what reason they have been formed. He told them to continue with their main goal and make paper bag as a supplementary and optimistic that they can carry the activities forward.
He further thanked the Team Metamorphosis for its cordial relationship with the district administration and undertaking various spheres of social activities like revival of culture, medical, environment and other social activities in the town.
Earlier, the programme chaired by Nzano Tungoe began with an invocation by Zurenthung Humtsoe, assistant pastor WTBC.
Welcome address was delivered by Jendano Shitiri, area co-ordinator NSRLM Wokha block and vote of thanks by Thungdemo Kyong, chief advisor Team Metamorphosis.
