
Advisor of Horticulture, Mhathung Yanthan inaugurated a rural market at Gariphema under Kohima district, constructed under MIDH by contractor, Medozeu Chiese on June 3.
Speaking on the occasion, Yanthan encouraged the farmers to make use of the new technologies and machineries to enhance agricultural products. He viewed that the incorporation of scientific methods with traditional knowledge would hugely augment the economy of cultivators.
He promised that the department was willing to extend help to those farmers, who were actually doing the works, stated a press release from Village Vision Cell Gariphema.
Horticulture principal secretary, M.K. Mero also stressed on the need for cultivators and farmers to go for large production on commercial scales.
Horticulture director, Dr. Elithung Lotha called upon the gathering to make optimal use of the government funded infrastructure and pointed out that Gariphema Village is blessed with all the strategic factors for becoming the ultimate vegetable tourist village.
Meanwhile, Vibeilietuo Kets, convenor Village Vision Cell Gariphema expressed gratitude to the state government and the department for constructing the rural market.
Earlier, Ayieno Hibo, District Horticulture Officer (DHO) Kohima conducted a short training session on how to combat and curb the Fall Armyworm (FAW) infestation on maize fields in the Village.
