
Lok Sabha MP, Tokheho Yepthomi Friday graced the 32nd Regional Level Youth Parliament Competition 2019-20 (RLYPC) at KV, Dimapur as chief guest.
In the competition, KV Dulianjan emerged as the winner.
Five schools- KV Dulianjan, KV Tinsukia, KV Dinjan, KV Rangapahar and KV No. 2 Imphal participated in the competition organised and hosted by KV Dimapur.
In his address, Tokheho termed the event as an opportunity for the participants to exhibit their oratory skills and presence of mind. He said skills should not only be limited for participation, but more importantly for the students to equip with skills that would mould them to hold steadfast in life.
The MP also said that through such kinds of events, the students will be able to experience the country’s vibrant democracy, where freedom of speech was not only a right guaranteed by the constitution of India, but also a way of life, where debate, criticism and correction form the essence of a tolerant society. He further urged all participants to inculcate such characteristics to carry the baton of the country’s founding fathers.
He went on to say that India being the biggest democracy in the world, it was indeed a blessing for all to avail opportunity to exercise their franchise to elect leaders of their choice. “Our parliament is a beacon of inspiration for many who strive to become democracy”, Tokheho stated.
Tokheho also elaborated to the participants and gathering regarding the procedures and functionaries during a Lower House meeting and further motivated the participants by urging them to hone their skills as they will one day become the leaders and representatives of the people. He also reminded the participants that in a democratic set up, a strong opposition plays a vital role and acts as the watch dog of the constitution.
Guest of honour, Asst. Commissioner, KVS, regional office, Tinsukia region, S V Joglekar, delivered the key note address.
In his speech, he highlighted the proceedings of RLYPC and stated that the same competition was held all over India, where winners were selected and competed in the National level. Earlier, the programme was chaired by principal, KV Dimapur, Umesh Chandra, who also delivered the address. Special numbers and cultural dance were performed by the students of KV Dimapur.
