
Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana- National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) was jointly launched for Kikrüma, Chetheba,Chizami Rural Development (RD) block on August 29 at the Multi-Purpose Indoor Stadium, Pfutsero Town.
A press release by DAY-NRLM stated that at the launching programme, minister for Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs, Neiba Kronu expressed the hope that Self Help Groups (SHGs) in the state would become a “mini bank” for the rural community.
He stressed on the importance of team work, exceptional coordination between SHGs, village leaders and the need to maintain good relationship with banks.
The minister also expressed on the need to market local produces, and stressed for development in tourism, transport, communication and power sectors.
In a keynote address, additional secretary RD and mission director NSRLM, Athel O Lotha highlighted about DAY-NRLM in Nagaland. She said the mission was implemented as Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission (NSRLM) in the year 2013 in nine blocks under nine districts of the state. Lotha said NRLM was restructured from IRDP to SGSY which at present was known as DAY-NRLM.
She said NRLM, a community managed programme, aims to reduce rural poverty and bring poor together as women SHGs, village level organization, and cluster/block level federations.
The launching programme was chaired by ADPM Phek, Zhalie Puro, a prayer was said by Pfutsero Town Baptist Church Sr. Pastor Rev Dr. Neingupe Cheiro, welcome address by Women SHG Federation Pfutsero Block president, Wepretso-ü Kupa, a song by Baptist Theological College, T. Chikri, Pfutsero and vote of thanks by BPM Chetheba, Senovielhou Koza.
The programme was attended by various governmental officials, public leaders, village representatives and SHG members.
