Claiming that the general meeting convened on March 7 this year with one-month’s notice elected the new leadership by following all norms and procedures, NNC (Parent Body) stated that it was the genuine Parent Body.
In a statement issued by its vice-president Zhiongba Yimchungru, the organisation also claimed that the new leadership was real leadership and asserted that nobody could undo or discredit it now. The new leaders were acting president Yilow Humtsoe, vice-president Zhiongba Yimchungrü and general secretary V Nagi, it added.
It also declared that the leadership could not be replaced or changed by an individual or committee or group as this was purely its internal affairs and that new office-bearers were elected.
On V. Nagi’s co-convenership, NNC (PB) recalled that he was elected by voice vote in the meeting of NGOs (civil societies) at the time of the formation of Working Committee (WC), Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs), and that this was official.
NNC (PB) further stated that Z Royim had, during his acting presidency in 2015, given all political authority in writing to Nagi to exercise and execute NNC authority in political decision making, appointment of members, etc. Therefore, it asserted that Royim had no moral or political authority to appoint or change any high office of responsibility in its setup. NNC (PB) clarified that WC’s “direct involvement” in its affairs and all the ugly happenings that unfolded compelled it to speak the truth.
On WC’s reference to Yehzabo, NNC (PB) alleged that the former did not know its head or tail, adding only two-thirds majority of the central executive council members/regional authority could impeach any high office/leader in treason, in no confidence of a leader, etc.
It further alleged that NNPG WC was controlled by one man and that most member groups of WC were not happy and cooperating, hence its future was uncertain.
NNC (PB) said it was unfortunate that a “politically-tarnished and blemished” member like Royim was made a leader to keep the number of NNPGs intact three days ago without following any norms and procedures and with few followers who had never worked in NNC or national politics earlier, adding that even those affiliated to State’s political parties were made leaders.
“These people were making Naga national politics a real mockery in the history of Naga struggle. And they will be held entirely responsible and answerable to the Naga people one day,” the statement cautioned.
Reiterating that Yimchungrü Regional Council had denounced Royim’s leadership because of betrayal and that no one was with him, the organisation claimed that this was the council’s stand in the past too.
Asserting that its information & publicity wing as its mouthpiece was well-known to the people and media in particular for a long time and that the anonymous person was a liar, NNC (Parent Body) warned that Royim and his supporters would be held solely responsible for any action against genuine NNC leaders. It also appealed to the political groups which supported it to extend help defend its leaders.
