Look beyond govt sector: Imna Along

Minister of Higher & Technical Education & Tribal Affairs, Temjen Imna Along called upon students to strengthen not just the government sector but to look beyond it and become self-sufficient for a stable economy.

A press release from Tetso College (TC) director, Kvulo Lorin stated that Along was speaking at the 25th Fresher’s Day: Salvete 2019 as the special guest on August 31. Stating that the young freshers were the future of Nagaland, Along challenged and requested the Tetso student community for three important things.

Firstly, Along asked the 650 freshers to each plant a tree and post on Instagram. Secondly he asked the seniors to observe September 17, which is Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday by each helping a disabled person and post on instagram. Finally, he urged the Tetso community to commit to declaring the campus plastic free.

This was immediately followed by a public commitment on stage from the principal Dr. P. S. Lorin, who received a resounding affirmative from the Tetso community to make TC campus plastic free.

Director of TC, Kvulo Lorin announced that approximately 650 students from all districts of Nagaland and neighbouring states joined Tetso College this year with two rank holders, one joining B.Com Accountancy & Finance and the other pursuing honours in BA English and so many other talented students. College has awarded scholarships worth 34 lakhs to 60 students this year including need-based scholarships so that no deserving student is denied admission, he informed.

The event was also attended by members of the newly formed Private College Association Nagaland (PCAN) and other dignitaries.

S P Francis, vice president of PCAN brought greetings from PCAN and also announced the conduct of an inter-college sports meet to be held in the late part of January. He further encouraged the freshers to work hard and give their best in this new chapter of their life.

The event was hosted by Akumnaro Ozukum of BA 5th semester and invocation by Ahile Seb, president of EU. Performances included Million Dreams by Nokmachiba, BA 1st semester and an instrumental piece titled Wind of Change. Yavisau Ekaterina Sekhose of MA 1st semester (Eng) delivered the speech on behalf of the freshers.
