
Department of Legal metrology and Consumer Protection in collaboration with Kiphire Town Students Union organised “Consumer Awareness Programme” at Hopongkyu memorial Hall Kiphire town on Wednesday.
Principal secretary, Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection, Food & Civil Supplies and APC, N.Hushili Sema graced the event as guest of honour.
In her address, Hushili said it was important for the consumer to know their rights, duty and responsibilities.
She also asked the consumers to approach authority in the event of any problem faced by them while purchasing commodities.
She further asked the consumers to check price tag and expiry dates while buying things from the shop.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Kiphire & Secretary Kiphire District legal Service authority, N.Kano said that owing to non-posting of full-fledged session judge in the district, the office was facing difficulties.
He reminded the gathering not to be just a listener but act accordingly to what they learn from the programme.
CJM also explained in brief on , Who is Consumer ?, Who can file a complain?, What constitutes a complain ? etc to the gathering.
SDO(C) Kiphire, Nyempo Wallim in her short speech thanked the department of Legal Metrology and Consumer protection for organising the programme.
President United Sangtam Likhum Pumji, Seopi Sangtam who also spoke at the programme urged the department to set up District Redressal Forum and Consumer court at the earliest.
The programme was chaired by AGS, Kiphire Town Students’ Union, Thriseo Sangtam while vote of thanks was tendered by Jt. Controller & HoD Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection, Haikambe.
Earlier, the programme began with an invocation by Dr. Apise, secretary, USBLA. Welcome address was delivered by assistant controller, LMCP, C.Chullen.
