World Day against Trafficking in Persons 2019 programme was also observed in Mon and Peren on July 30 on the theme “You can free me”. 

Following are the reports. 

In Mon, the programme to commemorate day was organised at GHSS Mon.  A DIPR report stated that at the function, centre administration OSC, Lily Konyak stated many victims fall into the trap through promises of jobs in call centres, beauty parlour in the big cities with handsome salary, but at the end they were put into prostitution and forced labour.  

Anyim Konyak, Case worker, Sakhi One Stop Centre spoke on the aims and objectives of OSC. She stressed on the integrated support and assistant for women affected by violence under one roof. 

She also shared on the services provided by the OSC like medical assistance, police assistance, psycho-socio support, legal aid, shelter and video conference. 

Meanwhile, awareness programme on human trafficking was held at various places under Mon Town. On July 27, Inter School Singing Competition was organised at Mission Centre KBBB, Mon. On July 29, a programme was held at Tin Ali Junction, Mon. 

Speaking on the occasion, Women Welfare Officer, District Level Centre for Women, Mahila Shakti Kendra Mon, Ngepshom Konyak pointed out three most common types of human trafficking- sex trafficking, forced labour and debt bondage.

PEREN: An awareness programme on human trafficking was organized by Peren district administration in collaboration with MSK, One Stop Centre, and PMMVY to mark the day.

 The programme was held under the banner of Beti Bachao, BetiPadhao (BBBP) at Badminton Stadium, Peren. 

SDO (Civil) Peren, Rahul Mali in his short speech said, trafficking in persons is a serious crime and a grave violation of human rights. Thousands of men, women and children fall into the hands of traffickers and almost every country of the world is affected by trafficking, he added. 

Zeliangrong Mother’s Association president, Apeuna Iheilung and Avika Zhimomi CDPO Peren also delivered short speeches. 

The programme was chaired by Akosi Khate Sakhi- One Stop Center Peren while Heiriateile women welfare officer delivered welcome address. The programme concluded with vote of thanks by PSU president, Rampauyi Ndang. 

Students from different institutions, Peren town youth organization, Peren students union, progressive Peren and Peren town women welfare organization (PTWWO) attended the programme.
