Medical services in the state were affected on Wednesday as doctors joined the strike called by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) to protest against the National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill, 2019.
IMA Nagaland State Branch, which called for withdrawal of nonessential medical services on July 31, 2019 to oppose the NMC Bill 2019, has appealed to all medical doctors to continue opposing the bill. In a press release, IMA Nagaland branch Dr. Kezevituo Keditsu stated that “this undemocratic and senseless bill” has plunged healthcare and medical education back to the dark ages.
Meanwhile, IMA Nagaland has expressed gratitude to all members of the medical community for joining protest. The association has also appealed to all sections of society to join the doctors “in correcting this egregious travesty.”
In a separate statement, IMA Dimapur Branch honorary president Dr. D.R. Sharma stated that as a mark of protest against the NMC Bill, all the hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centres in and around Dimapur including District Hospital closed their OPD services. However, emergency services, casualty and ICU services functioned normally.
