
PMEGP beneficiaries association, Mokokchung district Monday locked the doors of three private banks at Mokokchung town namely ICICI, HDFC and Axis Banks for refusing to sanction the entitled loan and subsidies to the genuine selected beneficiaries.
The association had earlier served ultimatum on those banks to release loans and subsidies to the beneficiaries under the scheme PMEGP till 2019 on or before August 16, 2019. However, even after the expiry of the deadline, the association did not receive any positive response from the banks. Therefore, the association had gone ahead with locking the doors of those banks Monday morning.
Members of the association talking to media persons said that the shutters of those three banks would remain locked until the association’s demands were met. Police and district administrative officers were also present when the association members locked the banks.
Later, during an informal interaction, the administrative officers highlighted to the association members that they have had meetings with the respective banks on Saturday and the situation has been communicated to the respective head offices.
The officer also said that official statements from the respective bank’s head offices were being awaited.
