Woman found dead in Peren district

Peren police on Thursday recovered the body of a 19-year-old woman, who reportedly went missing on August 1. The body was found in the jungles of Gaili village in Peren district. The deceased has been identified as one Paugumcule, a resident of Punglwa village.

Speaking to Nagaland Post, Peren sub-divisional police officer, Vikato Thonger said the police was informed regarding the matter by the district administration around 9 p.m. on Thursday. On learning about the incident, women police OC rushed to the spot for preliminary investigation.

According to police, the deceased had disappeared from her home on August 1, following which her relatives and villagers conducted extensive search operation. Her body was later found 60 feet below the State highway under the jurisdiction of Gaili village. The body was taken to Dimapur for post-mortem after which it was handed over to the family members. 

The SDPO said the result of post-mortem was awaited and that it would be forwarded to Forensic Science Laboratory for further examination. He said further investigation into the matter was still on.

Organizations condemn: Meanwhile, the recovery of the lady’s body has drawn condemnation from various organisations which suspected it to be case of murder.

In a statement issued by its president Kiepeube Zehuny, Northern Zeme Youth Organisation (NZYO) expressed its shock and sorrow at the unfortunate incident. Strongly condemning the heinous act within Northern Zeme area, the organisation said such act should be condemned by every section of the society. It also urged the law enforcing agency to look into the matter seriously and book the culprits behind her death at the earliest and award them a befitting punishment. Condoling the tragic death of Paugumcule, NZYO also prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace and for giving comfort and solace to the bereaved. 

Ngwalwa Students’ Union (NSU) too has strongly condemned the “murder” of Paugumcule. 

NSU publicity & information secretary Isipeung Doson said that such a heinous crime was totally unacceptable, adding it was also endangering every life. NSU urged the authorities concerned to investigate the matter and book the culprits behind her death at the earliest. It also conveyed heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family members.
