Former Nagaland Legislative Assembly speaker, Thenucho Tunyi has condoled the death of eminent Supreme Court lawyer, former minister of Law and Justice and Member of Rajya Sabha, Ram Jethmalani on September 8. Tunyi recalled his association with Jethmalani during his student days at Government Law College, Bombay in 1977, when the latter was invited to speak during one of India’s most difficult political upheavals.
“A ‘Maverick’ in the true sense, Jethmalani was vibrant, dynamic and one of the most outstandingly courageous man I ever knew”, Tunyi said. The former NLA speaker said late Jethmalani never shied away from confrontations and from expressing his feelings. “Throughout his life he defended the interest of the minorities and the downtrodden”, he said. In his death, we have not only lost a noble soul but a true pioneer of the Justice system in India, Tunyi said.
