Various activities conducted under Poshan Maah in Nagaland

Under Rashtryia Poshan Maah 2019, anaemia screening camp was conducted at Wokha village community hall on September 14, organised by department of Social Welfare- ICDS, in convergence with Medical, RD (NLRM) departments, community leaders and other line departments.

According to DIPR report, deputy CMO Wokha, Dr. Zuben Kikon enlightened the gathering that anaemia is a condition in which the blood does not have enough healthy red blood cells in the body which led to reduced oxygen to body organs and happens due to lack of vitamins and iron. 
He suggested anaemic people to eat plenty of iron rich foods such as green leafy vegetables, lemon, amla, guava, iron-fortified cereals.
Dr. Zuben also added that one can help prevent iron-deficiency anaemia by eating a well balanced diet including good sources of iron, vitamin b12 and folate. Stating anemia leads to premature birth and low birth weight for baby and even maternal mortality he urged to take the above mention food supplements for precaution.
Sr. supervisor, ICDS, Wokha, Erenbeni Kikon briefed about the celebration of Poshan Maah said, where the entire month of September will be celebrated as the Rashtryia Poshan Maah-National nutrition mission. She stated that poshan abhiyaan intends to increase awareness among mothers of young children, adolescent, and community members, health care providers, adolescent girl child from 0-6 years, lactating mothers to achieve specific targets for reduction in low birth weight babies and prevention of anemia in the next three years.
She also stressed on personnel cleanliness and hygiene for healthy environment, ensure safe drinking water and cultivating the habit of washing hands before eating and after defecation and added every child should be provided full immunization under universal immunization programme.
ICDS Chare block: Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), Chare block conducted a block level adolescent girls awareness camp under Poshan Abhiyan with the theme “menstrual hygiene and health” at Chare town hall on September 14.
A a press release from ICDS Chare stated that, EAC Chare, Nockpai Konyak, while launching adolescent clubs of three schools, Govt. High School, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, and Shuzong School at the programme, announced that adolescent clubs are initiated to provide a confidential platform for sharing girls’ adolescent related health issues among peers and schoolmates. 
Delivering the keynote address, Moa Longkumer, CDPO chare, emphasized that there is a need for sensitization among adolescent girls regarding menstruation and pointed out that most fathers don’t know about it and mothers don’t speak to their daughters about it.
An interactive session was conducted in which all associated topics related to menstruation were discussed. 
Other highlights included short speeches on the topics “Menstrual health and Hygiene” and “Nutrition and Adolescent Health” by Ritsala of JNV Chare and Khumrilila of Govt. High School Chare respectively. Nearly 200 girl students of classes 8 to 10 of Chare town and Chare village participated in the awareness camp.
JNAC Dimapur NSS unit: NSS Unit of JN Aier College (JNAC), Dimapur observed Poshan Abhiyan on September 14 under the theme, “Promotion of organic diet” with  Akumienla, horticulture inspector (HI), District Horticulture Officer, Nagaland as the resource person. 
A press release from JNAC PO of NSS unit Khenili Kiho stated that, the speaker highlighted on the importance of organic diet in one’s life and also stressed on the harmful effects of inorganic consumption. The programme was chaired by Susila Augya Basnet, asst professor of English and Khenili Kiho, the programme officer (PO) of NSS unit JNAC highlighted on the observation of Poshan Abhiyan. 
Department of Social Welfare Dimapur: Seminar on Rashtriya Poshan Abhiyaan was organised by department of Social Welfare, Dimapur district in convergence with Health and Family Welfare and PHED on September 2 at AWTC complex, Diphupar Dimapur.
A press release from Social Welfare department, district coordinator (Poshan Abhiyaan) stated that the resource person, MO Dr. Michelle spoke on health and nutrition while PHED sanitation and hygiene consultant Imojungla Longkumer spoke on basic sanitation and health practices and district coordinator Limasenal Walling spoke on Poshan Abiyaan. 
The programme was chaired by DPO Dimapur Hutoi Sema. The seminar was attended by trainees of anganwadi workers and officials from line departments. 
Meanwhile, a painting competition was organised in convergence with School Education on the theme “Nutritional issues at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Dimapur. Altogether, 40 students participated in the competition from classes 8 to 10. 
A cash prize and award certificate was handed over to the winners along with five consolation prizes. Participants were given consolation prizes as sign of encouragement. 
ICDS Project Chare: ICDS Project Chare, conducted orientation workshop for Chare block at town hall, Chare Town, Tuensang on September 13, to mobilize participation and movement for success of the Poshan Maah under Poshan Abhiyan. A press release from ICDS, CDPO, Chare block, Moa longkumer, stated that ambitious “Poshan Maah” initiative, as a part of Poshan Abhiyan was started to ensure adequate nutritional diet to pregnant women, lactating mothers, adolescent girls and children. Moa called for coordination between various organizations present and that vigorous campaign should be taken up by participants at grassroots level to sensitise people on importance of health and nutritional diet. 
Participants were made aware of issues such as anaemia prevention in children, adolescent girls, safe drinking water, diarrhea management, hygiene and sanitation, and food fortification and nutrition. More than 70 people attended the workshop.
