Family Planning Association of India (FPAI), Nagaland branch conducted Adolescents Education Programme Plus (AEP+) at Assembly of God High School (AGHS), Kohima on October 29. The resource persons of the programme were Akangkokla Namo, programme officer and Sentilemla Longkumer, monitoring and evaluation officer FPA India Nagaland branch.
A press release from FPAI Nagaland branch programme office, Akangkokla Namo stated that the session was conducted separately for boys and girls wherein students were made aware about the physical, emotional and cognitive transition that occurred during adolescent stage.
Akangkokla pointed out that adolescent was a stage of exploration and it was normal to experience changes and desires but important to learn and understand the consequences of every action which will affect their lives either negatively or positively.
Students were also educated on the transmission of HIV, menstrual cycle, negative consequences of substance abuse and sexual assault. Sentilemla Longkumer shared about menstrual cycle and to maintain hygiene to avoid infections and diseases relating to sexual and reproductive system. Counselling sessions were provided to some of the students identified by the teachers.
