Kohima police ban vehicle modifications

KOHIMA, JUN 5 (NPN)

Kohima police have warned the vehicle owners against carrying out unauthorized vehicle modifications, saying such alterations were in violation of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1989, and associated regulations.
In a press release, the Superintendent of Police Kohima on Wednesday informed that modifications deviating from the manufacturer’s original specifications were strictly prohibited.
Police listed several types of illegal modifications, including alterations to exhaust systems—especially in two-wheelers—retrofitment of non-standard or excessively bright LED lights, installation of unauthorized sirens or blinkers, and the use of tinted films that reduced visibility on windshields and windows.
Further, the police have informed that strict enforcement of regulations would be carried out in the coming days. Police cautioned that vehicles found to be in violation would be subject to seizure, and the owners or operators would face legal consequences as provided under the law.
Kohima police have, therefore, urged all the vehicle users to ensure that their vehicles conform strictly to approved specifications and to refrain from making any modifications not explicitly permitted.
Kohima police asserted that the move aims to enhance road safety and ensure compliance with established vehicular standards.
Police advised the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement to maintain road discipline and avoid penalties.
