Power department has clarified that the November 25 incident, where an electric pole had fallen down and damaged a rickshaw, was due to illegal stringing of cables. In a press note, executive engineer (Dimapur electrical division), Er. Imsenkaba said Reliance Jio company had illegally strung their cable on that particular pole which fell on top of the rickshaw.
EE said besides Reliance Jio, BSNL, local TV cable distributor and others had been stringing their cables in almost all the poles illegally. It further clarified that the said pole was an unused street light pole, without any electrical connection and was to be removed once the newly constructed line was commissioned. Though the pole belonged to the department, EE said the department could not be blamed for the incident.
Meanwhile, the department has directed all companies to immediately remove their cables from all electrical pole so as to avoid such incident in the future.
